wee ones
March 8th, 2008
OK, I have been a complete and udder slacker the past 2 months. I have even check to see if my own blog is still here and alive. I have administered an oxygen mask and a shot of adrenalin to the heart.. I think it will be ok.
I have a few projects that I am working so I can post about those soon. I will be house & kitty sitting for the next 2-3 weeks… and there is SO MUCH space there to spread out all my supplies, i am really excited to get some fun stuff done.
In the mean time… I would like to share with you .. one of my very favorite movies. The soundtrack kicks butt too!! Thank you Babbette for the heads up. It will remain a life time favorite
This is the most beautiful song I have heard in a very very long time…done by John Frusciante from the Red Hot Chili Peppers… just found it and can’t stop listening to it.

It’s my birthday today! Happy 38 to me!

SO here is my BOY! My boy.. and his BOOK with two stories in it…..
It is called “826 Seattle Writes the Rain: Stories about humans, mythical creatures,
and jelly dounghnuts.”

HOW VERY COOL IS THIS??
The publishing party was fun. A few of the authors got up and read their stuff.. and then we all toasted with milk and jelly donuts. Following the toast all the authors sat behind long tables around the perimeter of the room for a book signing… !!

I am a very proud mama.

The jelly donuts and milk.
The first story can be read HERE and the second is …
“WELCOME HOME” by Ethan
He was sitting in an uncomfortable-looking heap but, made sure not to reposition himself because that would be bad luck. Kirk seemed to base his superstitions off of the things that benefited him. If something made him more comfortable, he would always convince himself that it was bad luck. This sort of self-defeating superstition had troubled him for a long time.
He heard a knock on the door. Not a “Hello, may I come in?” sort of knock but, an “I’m coming in so you’d better be ready” sort of knock. The door opened. It was Dr. Lasseter, holding his clipboard, like he always was.
“Hello Kirk. I’ve come to check on you again. Just answer my questions and I’ll leave you alone again.”
Kirk hated these checkups simply because they distracted him from thought. Dr. Lasseter always seemed to have this forced sort of smile on his face, as if he were faking it. Which was very possible. Probable, even.
“Alright. let’s begin. Look outside, out the window, what do you see?”
Kirk looked out his small, barred window. “I… I see, see, the wind, blowing, blowing, blowing the wind. There’s wind. And… Mr. Shadow is banging on the front door. Don’t let him in! Please keep Mr. Shadow out! Keep him out, out… him out…”
With this last sentence, Kirk sounded a bit alarmed that his imaginary tormentor, Mr. Shadow, was banging on the front door. At least that’s what he thought he saw.
Dr. Lasseter sighed quietly. This Mr. Shadow bit had caused quite a bit of trouble on occasion. “Alright Kirk we aren’t going to let him in. You can look away from the window now. Okay, listen to this sound and tell me what you hear.” Lasseter was holding a music box. he let it play for a few moments, it’s haunting tune passing through the dusty air.
Kirk replied in a tone that implied that the answer was very obvious and should be clear to anybody. “I don’t hear, hear, hear… there’s no music, I can’t hear any music.”
Dr Lasseter looked confused, scribbling something on his clipboard.
“Hmm… this music box is playing. Why can’t you hear it? Listen closely!” He played it again, the tune drifting through the air a second time. Kirk still looked as if he couldn’t hear it. “Can you hear it now, Kirk?”
“No.. no music… you… in the box… box, really playing? Is — no, it can’t… he will— you… No. I don’t hear any music.”
“Alright.” more scribbles on the clipboard. “Did you hear me crank it, before the music — stopped working?”
“Yes, I thin you’re… the cranking might have…. but we can’t— yes, I think your cranking bro–broke–broke… broke the box.”
“No, it didn’t. You just can’t hear it. Alright, here is the last test. Look at this.” he held a lit candle. “Do you see what’s on top of the candle?”
Kirk leaned in closer. “Yes, it’s fire. What do—will you. What did you think it was?”
Dr. Lasseter ignored this question and scribbled on his clipboard a bit more, before looking up and saying to Kirk, “Alright Kirk, thank you. I’m going to leave now.”
he turned and left the room, locking the door behind him. Kirk was left to think alone once again.

Thank you to 826 Seattle and Nick Harmer for funding the project.
I have pictures to post…
BUT, since upgrading to Leopard… we have to reinstall Photoshop and I can’t get the D@MN thing to work. So imagine this… Mara and me out in the driveway… it’s dark but, the outside lights are on… we are in our rain boots and we are playing hopscotch… leaping in our rubbers over brightly colored chalk lines. Tossing stones… one footed… hop hop hop… then Mara’s boots come off….

She is her mothers daughter

oddly enough I had have shoes on.. hm… what can i say? I was sick.
Remember this story? Where I told you that Ethan was taking some creative writing classes… and after one of them he brought home a self published book of all the stories written in his class. remember how exciting that was?
Well guess what? TWO of his stories from last summer were picked to be published in a REAL book… sale and everything! How cool is that?
SO FREAKING AWESOME!!
This weekend we will be attending the publishing party… like a party.. celebrating the stories… that got PUBLISHED! can I say it again? So freaking awesome.
My boy is SO amazingly talented
LOVE him. He is also turning 14 this month…whoa!

:)
My wee lad is so desperate to have a swim in the lake (as he is in this summer pic)
that he has asked for a wetsuit for Christmas. Santa better hurry up it’s starting to get quite nippy and I have just caught him knee deep wading through the fishes. Can you say frostbite?

To break up the monotony of my laundry and pee stories… I thought I would post some dragon boating pictures from our home race in July.

Loading up the boat.

I love how this picture captures just how I feel in the moments just before the race.
Inhaling, clearing my mind, calming.

Paddles up… I LOVE my team…. XOXOXOXOXOX

Our amazing caller.
I LOVE the power and energy this woman gives to us… and in turn draws it out of us. She is irreplaceable.

Just look at these HOT paddling ladies.

say no to Dandelion tea at bed time.

instead of my current nightly cup of peppermint tea at bed time i decided to drink dandelion tea.
after getting up about 5 times to pee, here i am sitting in front of the tube at 2:45 am watching 120 minutes on Vh1 Classic.
so I just looked it up… dandelion tea is a diuretic (makes you have to pee a lot).
woops.

of me and my love-love-lovely guitar?
Guess what?
I’ve been practicing!
AHHHH… happy day! One of the two long over due things I have set my mind to conquering lately. What’s the other thing? heh heh, that one, I am still keeping kind of a secret. for now.
As for me and my house? numb, blistery fingers and an almost recognizable song in the air…. yes.
Oh and I am also recording my progress… to keep my happy’s up on days when I feel like I’m getting know where. But, I surely don’t think my feeble progress is quite post-worthy yet
OK, just one more and then i will get off the JibJab train.
My friends and I doing the Can Can. I am seriously cracking my self up here.
my hair is fixed, pictures coming soon…. woopee!
Remember the bit in the Mara/unicorn story where I held gauze on her head? Check this out…
We were already in the car by the time i unwrapped the gauze for her head and I crumpled up and threw the bloody wrapper.
When I went out to the car the following morning I found this.
This bird made of crumpled up in haste gauze wrapper. It was laying there
behind the drivers seat looking much like a wounded bird.
Can I really crumple a bird in a panic or what?

Po-tweet.
